The interesting thing about times of uncertainty is that they force us to think differently, to see things in a new light, and to get out of whatever habitual rut we may be trapped in. It is precisely in these moments that artists can help us make sense of our collective experience by distilling abstract ideas into visual and emotional representations. As curators, we scour and organize the work of these artists into digestible themes that we hope are relatable and thought-provoking for others. Up until now, our work has resulted in physical installations within museums and galleries around the world. Virtual Views is our first foray into an online space for experience, thought, and provocation. While a virtual experience will never replace an IRL encounter with a work of art, it is our hope that these projects will provide a thoughtful, intriguing respite from the news and COVID-19 death tolls and introduce you to some amazing artists and designers—many we have had the pleasure of working with previously and others who are new to us.

Imagining Data

The Museum of Craft and Design (MCD) presents Imagining Data, curated by Ginger Gregg Duggan and Judith Hoos Fox of c2-curatorsquared. Data has become a buzzword, and a precious commodity and artists, not surprisingly, are showing us what data can look like, in paintings, drawings, sculpture, audio-visual installation, and performance. Utilizing systems designed to transform data into works of art, some artists realize elegantly hard-edged and precise interpretations, while others are surprisingly poetic and expressive. Opens January 25, 2021
